Finally it is time to release an update that's been coming for a long time. Hen in the Foxhouse 2.0 is here!

The Custom Mode is STEAM exclusive

Reworking gameplay and adding new content, it is a huge update.

  • A new and more complex City System.
  • A number of new Districts.
  • New District specific enemies.
  • New overall enemies.
  • Highly requested Chicken upgrades are here!
  • Foxes are more reactive with fleeing and speech.
  • Avoid being Spotted in the new gameplay cycle.
  • New Bosses.
  • And I'm sure there's more but I've been working on it so long I forgot.

Thanks so much for the feedback and support!

Here's the game: https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/824544

I also happened to come across some fan art. It's the first I've seen for something I've made and it made my day. Shoutout to @0hmega

I'm not sure that many people will see this post. Is there some kind of way to notify people who favorited the game that it was updated?

Hen in the Foxhouse is launched on Steam! Praise the Lord!

Just version 1.1 right now, but that's another reason I'm making this post.

Version 2.0 will be my next major update, and here are some things I'm trying to include:

1. City System update

The city will now have 6 districts, Commercial, Economic, Industrial, Infrastructure, Political, and Residential. Each works differently in the between days screen, and will have a unique building to help distinguish it. I want there to be more strategy in choosing a target.

2. Points system update

I'll be returning to only having one type of points during the day. Buildings won't be easy targets because they now contain foxes who flee them as they are attacked. I'm thinking of having a bonus multiplier based on forward movement.

3. Chicken combat update

I'm going to try and implement a few "Egg-Fu techniques" the player can choose from as upgrades for the chicken.

4. New enemies

Some will be district based, and I'm hoping to have the combat less about avoiding gun beams. There are also environmental obstacles like barbed wire to watch out for now.

Quite a doozy of an update planned, can't really give a time estimate because some of the features are just in the idea phase, but I wanted this post to be more than just the Steam launch announcement. Thanks for all the reviews and feedback! To God be the glory.

Check it out!

First off, in my rush to create a launch update for the Steam release of Hen in the Foxhouse, I did not consider the time Steam requires to review the game build. So the previous date on the storepage is inaccurate and will not be the launch date.

Secondly the game has been updated from the feedback given by reviews (Thank you)

WIP(Work in progress) means I hope to address it in another update.

  • -Add a crosshair - WIP
  • -Police Station too hard - Spawning is slowed, and visible
  • -Late game/guns are too difficult - Gun spawns are lowered
  • -Game is too defense based - WIP
  • -Foxes exiting police station should have an animation - Added
  • -Pause menu - Added
  • -Explain egg laying mechanic -WIP
  • -Accidental news skip - Fixed
  • -Music volume control - Added
  • -Boss too hard/attacking more than intended - Have not found an issue when testing
  • -Limit audio of fox footsteps - Added
  • -Custom controls - WIP

Lastly, here's a couple of WIP sprites from the next major update:

Hen in the Foxhouse 1.0 is up and playable! The first posting is being reverted to the game jam version, and this new post will be the updated version.

New Updated Version: https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/824544

The July Jam was my first game jam. When the theme was announced as 'egg', I came up with this funny idea of having a chicken rampaging through a city full of foxes. I kept the game mechanics simple, and I didn't get as much done as I wanted to, but people seemed to enjoy it anyway. Which was awesome.

Having joined Newgrounds recently, I was inspired by the content here, by the people who are getting better with their art and aren't afraid of being imperfect. I stepped out of my comfort zone with the first update and had some more complex angles in the opening cutscene. This would grow to much more complex shots in this 1.0 update, and I'm so glad I tried instead of giving up before I started. I think they are quite entertaining.

But what is all being added in this update? Well I'll tell you!

-Egg laying is automatic

-Moving debris hurts foxes

-Fox Soldiers

-Fox Weapons

-City systems

-Final boss

-Cars to motivate moving

-More city assets

-Press escape to go to menu

-and everything I probably forgot

Lastly, I figured I'd post this game to Steam. Which will also be a first for me.

I have enjoyed creative work for so long, often spending hours using the level editors in various games. As I learned more about games over the years, it became natural to critique and dissect, but with critique can come dissatisfaction, and a desire to fix things yourself. Such things have driven me to pursue a profession in game creation, and I understand it may not be quick or easy, but I love the process of making games, and I love the end result.

Starting Unity

I started using Unity back in... well it looks like the file dates have been ruined, so I guess I don't really know when, but 2016 seems close enough. I started by making some still unfinished projects. Then I decided to actually finish what I worked on next. I didn't want to set my goals too lofty, so I set my sights on what I thought was the low bar of a mobile game.

HUE Trials - Bacteria Adventure

HUE Trials was what I started to create. I wanted to make a game that was actually designed for touchscreen, as opposed to using a virtual gamepad on the screen. At the start there was only the black and white mechanics in the game, but I wasn't satisfied with that for whatever reason, and ended up working on the game for 3 years. It was my goal to make it not feel like a shallow mobile game, and after I was satisfied, I released it on Android. However, nobody seemed to care about it, and it sat stagnate for 2 years.

Six Shooter - Gun Duel

During that time I made Six Shooter, which was very enjoyable to work on after only doing HUE Trials for so long. Its pseudo pixel art style may make me question my sanity sometimes, but it was fun to work on, and I really like the end result.

Project Peregrine (WIP)

I also had plans to make a full sized PC game, Project Peregrine, but tons of IRL stuff has made me put it off. The computer I worked on almost left this earth, but I was able to retrieve all my data and continue making it. The Project Peregrine videos I have are not up to date with its progress, though its not that much further along (looking back I only released a single video, lol). I don't feel like I've gotten it to the point of being fun, so it might require a complete rework once I get back to it.

The return of HUE Trials

When I first released HUE Trials, it was US only. I was very concerned with the legal side of the launch, and avoided other countries because of the possible privacy infractions. Since then, I have gained the courage to deal with such issues. I did a complete redesign of the HUE Trials menu systems and launched globally 2021-06-18 on Android. A friendly stranger who tried it through a Reddit post suggested making a browser version, and that lead me here to Newgrounds. I guess I'll post a link here after I set it up... See you later!
